The Nestlé corporation is the world's largest food conglomerate, including leadership in coffee (Nescafé) and bottled water (Perrier). Nestlé also has major investments in biotech, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Needs Analysis - Nestlé needed a global Intranet site to manage their insurance policies. This massively distributed and highly diversified company has literally thousands of policies with more than one hundred providers, making tasks like assessing risk, reporting coverage, and projecting costs very challenging. Nestlé wanted a single, consolidated system that would allow them to scan, index, search, organize, and control access to their policy information.
Requirements Gathering - b-i worked closely with Nestlé stakeholder to fully understand the needs of the system. Our business analysts concluded that we needed to build a Web-based, database-driven system that managed both Web content and also a variety of document types, such as scanned policy documents and indexed text from those scans.
Application Engineering - After carefully considering the project requirements, we realized that we needed to deliver a solution that included integrated functionality for both content and document management. To meet Nestlé's needs, we designed and developed a custom Web-based intranet application that includes a variety of robust e-publishing tools and full-text search. In line with Nestlé internal IT standards, we built the solution on Microsoft Windows platform technologies, including Visual Basic, COM, MTS, IIS/ASP, and VBScript.
